On The Subject of Old Churches
A reading and writing workshop led by reader/writer/historian Dr Clare Haynes
25th September 2026 10am – 3.30pm
The workshop is for anyone wanting to spend some time exploring old buildings in words.
We will explore together a selection of readings that includes poems by George Herbert and Philip Larkin, architectural criticism, guidebooks and fiction by M R James and Tracy Chevalier. There will be quiet spells for writing in response to them, and to the building we will be working in – the beautiful medieval church of St Peter Hungate in the centre of Norwich, now home to Hungate Medieval Art.
Tickets: £30 include refreshments (please bring your own packed lunch), and a reading pack. 5 places at £15 are available for those on means-tested benefits.
